A (very) Small Ray of Good News islnd

Amid the general horror, see this:

Maru is okay!

And  also CAT ISLAND.

What is Cat Island, I hear you ask.

Cat Island, Japan. It’s Like That “Cat

Lady,” But An Entire Island

What Is It?

Well, there’s this: a video of the island in happier times.

But “’Cat Island’,” officially known as ‘Tashiro Island’ (田代島), is an island near Ishinomaki City in Miyagi Prefecture…”

So you can see why I have been having pretty much nightmares about the old ladies and their cats.

So today I found this.

There is Hope for Cat Island

Monday, March 14, 2011

We have heard some positive and hopeful updates regarding the current situation of the “Cat Island” (Tashiro Island) in Japan.  A photo that was taken by NASA on March 12th shows Cat Island above water level.

Latest news March 14th:

“Just to give everyone an update on Tashirojima, the cat island. The people and cats are safe but short of food. A volunteer looked into transporting food by boat, but the is too much debris in the water. A helicopter is the only way. The army will probably get a helicopter ready soon so we are looking into the possibility of asking them to take cat food too.”

For more information on other animal rescue, there are the The Japan Earthquake Animal Rescue and Support people.

So back to the obsessive watching of increasingly horrific news.

  1. I am very happy for any glimmer of good news (mews!)!

So many souls in jeopardy. I pray food and shelter and water get to all of them in time. It sounds as though everything possible is being done.
