Phish story

from the brilliant blog of Momo:

Dear American:

I need to ask you to support an urgent secret business relationship with a transfer of funds of great magnitude.

am Ministry of the Treasury of the Republic of America. My country has
had crisis that has caused the need for large transfer of funds of 800
billion dollars US. If you would assist me in this transfer, it would
be most profitable to you.

I am working with Mr. Phil Gram,
lobbyist for UBS, who will be my replacement as Ministry of the
Treasury in January. As a Senator, you may know him as the leader of
the American banking deregulation movement in the 1990s. This
transactin is 100% safe.

This is a matter of great urgency. We
need a blank check. We need the funds as quickly as possible. We cannot
directly transfer these funds in the names of our close friends because
we are constantly under surveillance. My family lawyer advised me that
I should look for a reliable and trustworthy person who will act as a
next of kin so the funds can be transferred.

Please reply with
all of your bank account, IRA and college fund account numbers and
those of your children and grandchildren to so that we may transfer your commission
for this transaction. After I receive that information, I will respond
with detailed information about safeguards that will be used to protect
the funds.

Yours Faithfully Minister of Treasury Paulson

  4. lol must be fake cuz there's no offer of watching him/her on web cam in teh nudie and no offer of making my schlong 3x longer.
Better check it out on SNOPES!
You guys are right, it is funny AND scary, like too close to the truth. These Nigerian email scammers were onto something huh?
These are the same guys that said too bad so sad when presented with the thought that they might want to help the many thousands who were taken advantage of in these home loan thins who are now going to lose their homes. I still remember Bush saying something about feeling sorry for them but they got themselves into that mess yadda yadda yadda… Uh. Huh.

  5. They realized that if the banks go under, they're taking the rest of us with them. Which is why some kind of bailout is, unfortunately, probably necessary to avoid sending us into another Great Depression. I'm not happy about it, either. Next time, don't buy a house you can't afford with a mortgage you can't pay. That's why we're still living in a tiny little dump with a tiny little mortgage–because it's not fiscally responsible for us at this point to take on a larger debt.

  6. Good lord! Emily Sears just got one of those! My husband got one years ago, it is a 'nigerian scam' as it's called – the FBI is on to these. We reported it to our local FBI office, and they got back to us – scam. You will get bilked. It's a way to drain your bank account or pay to 'help' them. You end up getting nothing. Snopes may not be up on it – just check out the FBI's website = it's there.
Oh, and BTW, the treasury department never sends e-mail for help. I work for the department of justice here in the US, and that e-mail is fraud.
And there is no Ministry of the Treasury of the Republic of America – does not exist.

  7. Shows the insanity up close and personal. Like scamming, just like a scam.

  8. It's a joke, not a real scam…so it's a fake scam…..or a scam scam.

  9. Reminds me of an old saying, if you owe the bank $1,000 and can't pay, its your problem. If you owe the bank $1,000,000 and can't pay, its the banks problem.
