Good, but not too good

Well, we're not home free yet.
Motley's not as sick as he was, but he's not doing as well as he should be.
Last night he came up to sleep in the room with us about ten.
And was still up there at four in the afternoon today.
I brought him up food and water, and he ate a few bites, but really wasn't interested.
At ten tonight, he was still up there, in a different spot, but seemed a little brighter.
He'd eaten half a can of Fancy Feast I'd left up there.
(I know, it's not what I intend to keep feeding him, but at this point it's whatever he wants.)
That's better than this afternoon, but it's still not much for a whole day.
We talked with the vet — well, a different vet at the same office, not the lady Motley vamped when he came in, but the older, sweet guy.
We've agreed that Motley needs to be kept hydrated while he continues to fight the infection, so the poor baby is going to get fluids.
We did this for Zelda when her kidneys failed, so  it's not too hard on us.
We will see how the Mot likes it.

So, tomorrow, nine-fingered typing?

  1. I'm so sorry to hear about this. I'm sending prayers / good vibes / whatever works for you and Motley. I hope he'll eat a bit more, but I guess hydration's the most important thing. hugs to both of you!

  3. ((Hugs)) **scritches** ~~ healing vibes~~. I hope he gets better soon. Spoil him rotten… then at least you have that to do while he's busy fighting mystery kidney disease.

  8. Lauo—I didn't see this last post. I'm glad to hear he kept even a tiny bit of food down. Is there a high-protein food that the Vet can give you to put in a syringe just in case he refuses to eat? My thoughts are with you {{{hugz!}}}

  9. Sorry to hear Motley's still not well. It must be very stressful on you, too, even if you are an old hand at some of the technical aspects of care. Hugs to you both.

  11. I've been passing along all the hugs to Mr. Mott. He's a big boy who likes being hugged a lot.Unless you wake him up to do it.It annoys him to be disturbed while sleeping — sometimes he even growls.I've never had another cat who was such a grouch about waking up.Anyway, he got his first lot of fluid last night, and didn't mind it at all — I don't think he even noticed what we were doing. Then he ate a little food, went out back to pee in some leaves, and came right back inside. So I know he's not feeling well yet, or he'd have wanted to wander a bit.I noticed that he's sneezed a couple of times, so I'm wondering if he's cooking a little upper respiratory virus.Wolfie sneezed yesterday too.So it might not be just the kidney recovery that's slowing him down.I guess that would be good.If his kidneys weren't an issue I wouldn't bother him when he's obviously feeling uncomfortable, but it would be bad if he got dehydrated again. So more fluids tonight.

  13. I really am an animal person, even if I don't seem like it. I hope all goes well. Good thing you care so much about your mister. These are all similar things I worry about when my kid's sick too, how funny is that? 🙂
